Before transitioning into academia, Keith proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he enlisted and later retired as a Marine Corps officer. His military career was marked by a series of commendable promotions, culminating in his recognition as the top graduate of a prestigious leadership training course in San Diego in 1987. His legal expertise was evident during the Iran-Contra affair when he worked as a paralegal for General Colin Powell’s legal team.
In 1992, Keith was selected for a special program that facilitated his rise to officer rank. As a transportation commander and team embarkation officer in the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, he played a crucial role in significant operations, including support missions in Somalia, which were depicted in the film "Black Hawk Down." His military contributions extended globally, from assisting NATO in Bosnia to various other operations, before retiring as a Major after a distinguished career.
During his military service, Keith dedicated his time to several boards focused on advocating for veterans' needs, ensuring that their medical requirements were met. Even after retiring, his commitment to helping fellow veterans has continued, reflecting his deep compassion for their well-being and the challenges they face.
Keith has served as both a member and president of a local school board. Passionate about inspiring the next generation of leaders, he has received several awards, including recognition from Lead America Youth and National University. He is a sought-after speaker at events focused on leadership, military service, and business. Notably, he received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Medal in 2017, celebrating his unwavering dedication to student success.
Keith Coleman's academic credentials include a degree from Norfolk State University, along with studies at prestigious institutions such as the Army Logistics University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He holds a Master’s in Education from Concordia University and additional certifications, including Collegiate Athletic Resource Management from Oklahoma City University, as well as several technology development certificates from California State University.
